Ecumenical Christmas Celebration in the Nation’s Capital Concluded

WASHINGTON D C: The Ecumenical Council of Kerala Christians in the US Capital celebrated 2009 Christmas on Saturday December 5, 2009.

On a wintry day blessed with the first snow falling, Priests and members from twelve churches and their friends assembled in the main sanctuary of the Southern Asian Seventh-day Adventist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland to participate in the Christmas service and to present colorful entertainment programs.

Priests from member churches led the Christmas service and added spiritual beauty to the program.

Celebration started with a singing procession led by the Spiritual Advisor, Fr. K.P. Varghese.

Renowned Evangelist and Educationist Rev. Dr. Sathynath Clarke delivered the Christmas message.

Dr. George Varghese highlighted the spirit of Christmas, and ECKC mission to help the needy brothers and sisters in our Homeland.

ECKC Vice President Dr. Mercy Thomaskutty distributed checks to member parishes equal to Indian Rupees Seven lakhs for aiding in the areas of “marriage, medical treatment, higher education, home for homeless, etc”.

A colorful souvenir with the address directory of church members was released by Joy Joseph on the occasion.

M M S Gulf Regional Conference in Abu Dhabi on December 3

ABU DHABI: The first Gulf Regional Conference of Martha Mariam Vanitha Samajam will be held on December 3, 2009 at St. Thomas Hall of St. George Orthodox Cathedral Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of UAE Zonal Committee of MMS.

“Delegates are expected from 14 units of MMVS spread over 6 countries in the region (Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and UAE.). Program will start at 6 pm on Thursday 3 November 2009” informed Fr. Johnson Daniel Vice President MMS – UAE Zone.

The discussions will focus on the problems of the NRI women members of the Church.

Metropolitan Zachariah Mar Theophilos, the President of Akhila Malankara Martha Mariam Samajam will be the Chief Guest.

The annual meet of Martha Mariam Samajam UAE zone will also be held on 4th December 2009 at St. George Orthodox Cathedral, Abu Dhabi.

Preparations are Underway for Gulf Orthodox Youth Conference

MUSCAT: The curtains will go up for the 4th Orthodox Youth Conference of the Gulf Region on Tuesday, November 1, 2009 at Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church Muscat.

Metropolitans and the priests from Kerala as well as from churches in the Gulf region will be attending the two-day event. The Director of the Ministry of Religious affairs, Oman, the Indian Ambassador H.E Anil Wadhwa along with other dignitaries have consented to grace this occasion.

The theme of the conference is “The Boundaries and Beyond”.

Metropolitans Yuhanon Mar Policarpos (President-OCYM), Yuhanon Mar Militios, Geevarghese Mar Coorilose will address the conference.

Sabha Secretary Dr. George Joseph, OCYM-General Secretary Fr. Spencer Koshy, Fr. Jossi Jacob, Fr.Johnson Daniel, Abudhabi, Fr. Biju P.Thomas, Dubai, Fr. T U Thomas, Qatar, Fr. Saji Mathew, Bahrain and Fr. Joseph Malayil, Ras Al Khaima are the leaders at the conference.

A series of workshops, group discussions, interactive sessions and audio visual presentations are the highlights of the conference.

The preparations are under way to make the two days event a spiritually rewarding experience for the participants.

Clifton St. Gregorios Perunnal on November 14

CLIFTON – NJ: The 107 Dukrono of Saint Gregorios of Parumala will be celebrated at St. Gregorios Indian Orthodox Church, Clifton NJ on Saturday, November 14, 2009. The parish is located at 1231 Van Houten Ave, Clifton, NJ – 07013.

The Perunnal will begin with Holy Eucharist followed by Ceremonial Procession (Rassa), Public Function and then the feast. The Holy Relics of Parumala Thirumeni is also kept in the Church for veneration and this is the only parish named after the saint in the State of New Jersey. Clifton Mayor Hon’ble James Anzaldi will be the chief guest at the public meeting held thereafter.

The Chief celebrant of the Holy Eucharist will be Metropolitan Zachariah Mar Nicholovas, the Asst. Metropolitan of the Northeast American Diocese. Rev. Fr. Dr. C. C. Mathews, Rev. Fr. Dr. K. K. Kuriakose, Rev. Fr. Babu K. Mathews, Rev. Fr. Shibu Daniel and Rev. Fr. Sunny Joseph will be the co-celebrants on the occasion.

On Sunday November 1, the Perunnal flag was hoisted after the service marked the beginning of two weeks long Perunnal. Fr. Dr. T. P. Elias (India) and Fr. Shibu Daniel (Dover St. Thomas) will be the speakers at the annual convention on Nov. 7 and 13 respectively.

On Sunday November 15 with the Holy Eucharist and Kodiyirakkam (Lowering the flag ceremony) the Perunnal will be concluded.

Mathew Jacob serves as the General convener of the Perunnal. Jaison K. Jacob is the Trustee and Varghese P. Mathai is the secretary of the parish.

Family Conference in Dubai St. Thomas Cathedral on Oct.30-31

DUBAI: Family conference of the St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral in Dubai will be held on October 30 -31, 2009.

“Stress hike in family set up in the modern time is one of the main reasons to hold such a conference in our parish” said Fr. Biju P. Thomas, the vicar of the parish.

The theme of the conference will be “Contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality” Rom12:13. The resource person for the conference will be the renowned convention speaker and counselor Fr. T. J. Joshua.

Bible studies, Enlightening classes, Family counseling, Group discussions are the main items of the conference. Also games and talent show in the evening are arranged to ease minds of the participants of the conference.

There will also be separate programs simultaneously for the kids and youngsters in the conference. Singing sessions, prayers and Holy Qurbana will make the conference more spiritual.

Fr. Kurien Thomas Ancheril will be the moderator for the group discussions.

Registration will be closed on October 25, 2009.

Sunday School Area 4 competition of Northeast American diocese

NEW JERSEY: Sunday school Area 4 competition of Northeast American diocese was held at Clifton St. Gregorios Orthodox Church on Saturday, October 10, 2009.

The competitions were held in solo-song, story telling, elocution, group song and bible quiz for different age groups. Six parishes from the area 4 participated in the event.

Aju Tharian, the area coordinator in her opening message gave the guidelines for the competition to the participants. Titus Mathew and Thomas Chacko coordinated the program. Mathew Ancheril, Jomy Varghese, Suja Jose, Annie Mathew, Princy Jacob, Leena Varghese, Soffy Wilson and Sara Varghese were leaders of the program. Fr. Shibu Daniel (Dover St. Thomas) and Fr. Babu Varghese (Clifton St. Gregorios) attended the event.

The Documentary “Bhoomiyil Oru Swargam” Released on October 4

KOTTAYAM: The official inauguration of Family Welfare Month of the Malankara Orthodox Church was held on Sunday,4th October, at 4pm, at Mar Elia Cathedral in Kottayam by the Supreme Head of the Church Catholicose Baselios Marthoma Didymos I.  Metropolitan Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius presided over the function.

Former Vice Chancellor of MG University Dr. Cyriac Thomas in his key note address, spoke on the topic “Family Life: Challenges and Solutions”

A Documentary film entitled “Bhoomiyil Oru Swargam”,on Christian family relationship and its right nurturing was released during the function by the Catholicose. Thereafter the 50 minute Documentary was presented before the audience. Towering personalities like Aswathy Thirunal Gowri Lakshmi Bai, Mar Chrysostom Valiya Metropolitan, Sugatha Kumari, Justice Benjamin Koshy, Sr. Joan Chungapura, Dr. P.M. Mathew Vellore and Fr. Dr. O. Thomas shared their valuable thoughts and views on different aspects of family life in this documentary. The heart touching stories of some families which successfully overcame the insurmountable crisis in life give added color to the documentary.

An official family website “marry2love” was launched on the same day which provides matrimonial guidance and family counseling as well to the Church members.
