Orthodox Youth Movement Annual Conference Concluded

BANGALORE: The Annual Conference of all the youths of Orthodox churches in the Bangalore diocese was held at St. Baselios Orthodox Church, Mathahalli on Saturday November 27.

MGOCSM President & Bombay Diocesan Metropolitan, Geevarghese Mar Coorilos inaugurated the conference urging youth to give significance to God and place Jesus as a light in our hearts.

Metropolitan of Bangalore Diocese Dr. Abraham Mar Seraphim presided over the meeting and conveyed that youth is the present of the church and the church needs the youth.

The keynote speaker Fr. Abraham Thomas from the Orthodox Theological Seminary, Kottayam delivered in his address the importance of correlating the spiritual life with your daily life.

Delegates from Hyderabad, Vishakapatnam, Secunderabad, Mysore, Tumkur and Bangalore participated in the conference. The Bangalore Youth Choir lead the Music Session. St. George Orthodox Youth, Indiranagar won the Annual Quiz competition. The Youth Executive Committee took charge with the induction of the 5 Joint. Secretaries. Youth Movement General Secretary Ajith Mathew George did the vote of thanks for the gathering.

Lenten Family Meet Concluded Successfully in Bangalore

BANGALORE: The one day family retreat hosted by OCYM & MGOCSM of Bangalore Diocese concluded successfully at Georgian Pilgrim Centre, Bangalore on Saturday, March 13, 2010.

The retreat was inaugurated by Metropolitan Abraham Mar Epiphanios by lighting the lamp. A team of 10 from Sugatha Retreat Centre, Kolencherry led by Fr Gheevarghese and Fr Paulose conducted the retreat through meditation, devotional songs, prayer and confession. Hundreds of faithful from all the parishes in Bangalore attended the retreat with much devotion.

Cor-Episcopos Marett, Fr Iype Alex, Fr Varghese Philip Idichandy and Fr Saji Daniel (Vice President, OCYM, Bangalore Diocese and Vicar of host church) were present on the occasion.

Biji Kurian John,OCYM & MGOCSM Bangalore Zone Committee member ,welcomed the gathering. Ajith M George, General Secretary, OCYM Bangalore Diocese proposed the vote of thanks. Ajith M George, Gen Sec. OCYM, Linz Peter Philip & Dr. Alice M Mani were instrumental in organising this event.

Lenten Family retreat -2010 in Bangalore on March 13

BANGALORE: Youth and MGOCSM -Bangalore Zone would conduct a ‘Family Retreat’ on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at St.George Orthodox Church, Indiranagar.

The objective of this retreat is to help all our church members to understand the importance of Holy Lent and to prepare ourselves for leading a successful life.

Metropolitan Abraham Mar Ephiphanios who is in-charge of the Bangalore Diocese, will inaugurate the retreat. Sukhada Retreat Center, Kolencherry to lead the Retreat under the guidance of Fr. Geevarghese Vallikattil and Fr. Paulose Padavettil.

There will be a special musical session by the Sukhada Team at the retrat.

Georgian Pilgrim Centre Opened in Bangalore

BANGALORE: St George Orthodox Church, Indiranagar was proclaimed as Georgian Pilgrim Centre on Sunday March 7 by Metropolitan Abraham Mar Epiphanios,as per the holy edict of the Catholicos Baselius Mar Thoma Didiymus I, Supreme Head of the Indian Orthodox Church.

The edict was proclaimed after the Holy Trimass. The edict also elucidates grounds for the elevation through this decree. The congregation heartily welcomed this decree and praised the Lord for the patron saint St George for the favours.

In his message at the public function held thereafter, Metropolitan reiterated that irrespective of religion, it is important to know that God understands your need when you approach God in prayer. When one is close to God, he understands your every need without having to express it.

Sri N A Harris, MLA, Shantinagar, Bangalore, C M Philipose Cor Episcopa Remban, Fr Jacob Mathew, Fr Shiju, Fr Saji Daniel, Col. K C George, Fr V P Idichandy, Thomas Tharakan and Dr. Lalitha Oommen spoke on the occasion.

Sri Harris articulated on the Bishops’ quote of Jesus Christ’s teaching “Love Thy Neighbour” and advocated to expand its horizon across communities by treating each other as human beings and being patriotic in the service of our nation. Sri Harris spoke in English, then in Malayalam and then translated some of the points highlighted by the Bishop in Kannada for the benefit of the Kannada speaking community in the audience.

Sri Harris was accompanied by many social workers & trustees of temples, mosques, churches of various denominations from all over Bangalore. All were welcomed by presenting bouquets to each one by the small children from the church sunday school.

Cor Episcopos Philipose Remban in his presidential address reminded that all of the struggles in the establishment of the new church and was ecstatic of the elevation of the church he commandeered to build.

Prayers will be held in front of the Cross Tower every Wednesday evening” informed Fr Saji Daniel, the vicar.

St George Church Indira Nagar as a Georgian Pilgrim Centre

BANGALORE: St George Church Indira Nagar will be declared as a Georgian Pilgrim Centre during the Holy Qurbana on March 7, 2010 and the newly constructed Cross Tower will be consecrated on Saturday March 6 by the Diocesan Metropolitan Abraham Mar Epiphanios.

A large number of people irrespective of caste, creed or religion seek the Saint’s blessings and continue to receive miraculous results.

The Patron Saints’ mediation has showered on its devotees relief from diseases, courage against fearsome animals, strength against the fear of unknown, shelter from various kinds of vagaries of nature and guidance and wisdom for all those who seek jobs.

Various milestones in history and miraculous events have paved the way for elevating the church as the Georgian Pilgrim Centre by the blessed ‘edict’ of the Supreme Head of the Indian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Mar Thoma Didymus I, the Catholicose of the East.

First year feast of Mathews Mar Epiphanios at Chenkulam St. George Church

CHENKULAM: The first death anniversary of L.L. Metropolitan Mathews Mar Epiphanios, the “Sowmya Thejas” of Malankara had been commemorated at St. George Orthodox Church, Chenkulam- Metropolitan’s home Parish, on 13th February, 2010 by Thiruvananthapuram diocese, Chenkulam St. George Church and Koottarazhikathu Family ( Family of Mar Epiphanios) jointly.

Metropolitan Dr. Gabriel Mar Gregorios of Thiruvananthapuram Diocese was the chief celebrant for the Holy Qurbana.

Metropolitan Dr. Gabriel Mar Gregorios presided over the memorial function.
In his presidential address the Metropolitan remembered Mar Epiphanios as a spiritual leader, humanitarian and a very good Monk. He also urged the congregation to follow Metropolitan’s life and teachings as a living example.

Kollam M.P Mr. N Peethambarakuruppu inaugurated the meeting. The amount for house construction fund for Poor families was also distributed by the M.P on the occasion.

Mathews Mar Epihanios memorial Best Teacher Award was given to Santhosh Baby (Voc Higher Sec , Chovvallooor,Kollam) and Quiz competition Trophy awarded to Nedumpayikulam St George Church.

Fr Baby Thomas (Secretary,TVM Diocese) welcomed the gathering and Fr Stephen Viramon (Vicar, Chenkulam St. George) extended the Vote of Thanks.

Priests, Deacons,thousands of faithful from Kollam, Trivandrum Diocese and guests from different parts of Kerala have participated in the Holy Mass, memorial meeting and Nercha Sadhya therafter.
