Fr. John Thomas Celebrated the Silver Jubilee of His Priesthood


THIRUVALLA: Secretary to the North East American Diocese and Vicar of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Jacksonheights Fr. John Thomas celebrated the silver jubilee of his priesthood. The felicitation meeting was held at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Pulikkeezh, Thirvalla, Kerala, Fr.John Thomas’ home parish on Jan. 31,2010.

Metropolitan of Mavelikara Diocese Paulose Mar Pachomios celebrated Holy Qurbana on the occasion. Secretary to the Diocese of Niranam Fr. Abraham (Appu Achen), Fr. Jacob Philip, Member of the Sabha Managing Committee from USA, K. V. Mamman and Chor- Episcopos Zachariah were the main felicitators. Felicitations were read at the absence of the Senior Metropolitan of Niranam Dr. Geevarghese Mar Osthathios.

Prof. John Mathews Koodarathil was the main speaker on the occasion. He remembered that his association with Fr. John Thomas began through MGOCSM as he and Fr. John Thomas started working together for the Movement. He reiterated that his association with the Father strengthened his relations with his own Church. His 13 year long stint as General Secretary to MGOCSM was exemplary. Fr. John Thomas stands for the society and its well being too, the Professor said. He always was active with various activities of the Movement and he made everyone participate at their capacities as well, continued Prof. John Mathew, who is currently the Senior Vice-President of the Movement.

Vicar of the Pulikeezh St. Mary’s Church Fr. Raju was the organizer of the meeting. Fr. John Thomas thanked all at his reply speech.

Fr. John Thomas was the secretary of Salalah St. Stephen’s orthodox congregation while he was working as Manager at the Grind Lays Bank. He served as secretary of the St. Stephen’s Congregation, Bergenfield, when he was a theology student at New Jersey in the 80s. Now Fr. John Thomas is president of the Council of Churches in New York as well as Secretary of the Clergy Fellowship, St. Thomas Ecumenical Federation of New York.

OCYM Annual Conference on May 20-22 at Aluva


ALUVA: The 74th Annual Conference of OCYM will take place at the International Camp Site of the YMCA, Aluva from Thursday through Saturday, May 20-22, 2010. Theme for the conference will be ‘The Dialectical of Peace’.

A reception committee was formed for its 74th International Youth Conference at a special meeting of Orthodox Christian Youth Movement. Mar Polycarpos presided over the meeting.

The Catholicose Baselios Marthoma Didymos I will be the Chief Patron to the committee. OCYM President Metropolitan Yuhanon Mar Polycarpos of the Ankamali Diocese serves as Patron. Secretary to the Ankamali Diocese Fr. Mathai Edayanal Corepiscopos will act as Chairman to the Committee. Fr. Bobby Varghese will be the Vice-Chairman. Rev. Thomas Paul Ramban is elected as General Convener and Tilson Varghese is to serve as Joint Convener

Episcopal Election 2010 : Flagpole Rally to Sasthamkotta on February 12


SASTHAMKOTTA: The Flagpole Rally to mark the beginning of the Malankara Syrian Christian Association will commence from Thiruvithamkodu Church near Thiruvananthapuram. St. Thomas, the Apostle founded seven and half Churches in India and Thiruvithamkodu Church is famed as the half Church. Metropolitan of the Thiruvananthapuram Diocese, Dr. Gabriel Mar Gregorios, Fr. Baby Thomas and I.C. Cherian will lead the rally. The rally will pass through Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kundara, Kallada to reach Mount Horeb Ashram.

The ceremonial Flag Rally commences from Mattanchery on the same day itself under the auspiciousness of Kochi Diocese. Mattanchery is the place where the Coonan Cross Oath took place. Metropolitan of the Kochi Diocese Dr. Yakob Mar Ireaneios will lead the flag rally.

Association Torch Rally will begin from Parumala Seminary under the auspiciousness of Mavelikara Diocese. Metropolitan of the Mavelikara Diocese Paulose Mar Pachomios and Fr. Abey Philip will lead the torch rally to Sasthamkotta.

The Catholicose Elect Paulose Mar Milithios had installed the Tent Pole for the Malankara Association back on February 2nd.

Sabha Managing Committee will hold a special meeting on February 16 to evaluate the arrangements for the Malankara Syrian Christian Association, which is to be held on February 17 at at Mount Horeb Ashram, Sasthamkotta.

The main agenda of the Malankara Association is to elect 7 priests to the episcopate to fill the vacancies of various dioceses. From among the official panel containing 11 Episcopal Candidates the Malankara Association through voting will find out the new Episcopas.
