Metropolitan Dr. Mathews Mar Themothios Visits Congregations in Africa


KOTTAYAM: Dr. Mathews Mar Themothios, Metropolitan of UK, Europe and Africa visits African congregations from January 18 to February 16, 2010.

Metropolitan will reach Ethiopia on January 18, 2010 to meet Malankara Orthodox Church members there. He will also visit the Ethiopian Orthodox Church there.

On January 26 Metropolitan will reach South Africa. After visiting the congregations there he will return to India on February 16, 2010.

After assuming the Charge of the new diocese, it is the first time Metropolitan Mar Themothios is visiting the congregations in Africa.

St. Gregorios Church, Southend On Sea Celebrated Perunnal

UNITED KINGDOM: St. Gregorios Indian Orthodox Church, Southend On Sea, (U.K ) had celebrated its first Perunnal of the Patron Saint Parumala Thrumeni on 28th November 2009 at All Saints Church.

Holy Munumel Qurbana was conducted on Perunnal day followed by Rassa and Nercha vilambu. Cor-Episcopos A.M Mathai, Fr.George Panakamuttom (Vicar of Liverpool Indian orthodox church) and Fr. Mathew Abraham Palathinkal, Vicar of Indian Orthodox church in Southend On Sea were the chief celebrants. Devotional address was delivered by Fr John Samuel -Vicar of St. Gregorios Indian Orthodox Church, Brockley.

Rev. Neil Paxton vicar of All Saints Church Southend On Sea, Fr Steven Burdett, Rector of Anglican Church Southend On Sea and Fr. George joy Vicar of St. Thomas Indian Orthodox church Edgware, London attended the service.

Members from London, Romford, Chelmsford, Basildon and Southend On Sea Attended the Perunnal

One More New Parish in Coventry – UK

UNITED KINGDOM: Dr. Mathews Mar Themothios, Metropolitan of UK-Europe and Africa Diocese is visiting St. Mary’s Indian Orthodox Congregation, Coventry -United Kingdom On November 21, 2009.

Metropolitan will be celebrating Holy Qurbana on that day and will declare the congregation as a Parish of Malankara Orthodox Church under the diocese of UK-Europe and Africa.

This Congregation holds regular worships on every 3rd Saturdays by Fr. Mathews Abraham. For the last few years monthly prayer meetings are also being held by the congregation.

Switzerland St. Gregorios Orthodox Church celebrated Perunnal

SURICH: Switzerland St. Gregorios Orthodox Church celebrated the 107 ‘Dukrono’ of Parumala Mar Gregorios on Saturday October 24, 2009.

Fr. Joykutty Varghese of Vienna St. Thomas Orthodox Church was the chief celebrant on the occasion.

The managing committee of the St. Gregorios Orthodox Church was in charge of the Perunnal celebrations.

Hundreds of faithful attended the Perunnal, special intercessory prayers and Rassa. The Perunnal concluded with Nercha food.

UK-Europe-Africa Diocese: New Office at Parumala

PARUMALA: The administrative office of the diocese of UK, Europe-Africa was inaugurated by the Catholicose of the east and Malankara Metropolitan Baselios Marthoma Didymos I at Parumala Seminary on Saturday October 10, 2009.

The public meeting was presided by the Catholicose Elect Metropolitan Paulose Mar Milithios.

The diocesan Metropolitan Mathews Mar Themothios took charge in the new office after the inaugural ceremony.

Metropolitan Dr. Mathews Mar Thimothios

Metropolitan Dr. Mathews Mar Thimothios was born on 3rd May 1963 as the eldest son of Mr. P.J. Baby and Mrs. Thankamma Baby of Painuvilla Puthenveettil family. His Grace is a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral Puthiakavu, Mavelikkara.

Mar Thimothios took his degree as a student of Bishop Moore College Mavelikkara, G. S. T. from Orthodox Theological Seminary and B. D and M.Th. from Serampore University. His Grace has also attained the Licentiate in sacred scripture from the Pontifical Institute in Rome and Diploma in Biblical Archeology from the Pontifical Bible Institute in Jerusalem.

Mar Thimothios is a scholar in Italian, French, German, Aramic and Hebrew apart from English and Malayalam. His Grace has served as Joint Secretary of St. Thomas Orthodox Vaidika Sanghom, Publisher of “Purohithan” Magazine, Executive Committee Member of the Priest Fellowship in Rome, Secretary of Vattasseril Mar Divanyasios Charitable Fund, Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Registrar of Orthodox Theological Seminary.

Mar Thimothios has served as assistant vicar and vicar in eight parishes in Kollam and Mavelikkara. dioceses. His Grace has prepared O. V. B. S text books, teacher’s guide and a study based on the 24th Psalm. His Grace was ordained as Ramban on 4th December 2008 at Parumala

New Congregation in Kings Lynn, England

ENGLAND: A new congregation under UK-Europe-Canada Diocese is opening in Kings Lynn on October 11, 2009 at 2.00pm with Holy Qurbana celebrated by Fr. Mathew Abraham.

From November ’09 onwards the Holy Qurbana will be on 1st Sunday of every month at 2.00 pm at Holy Family Church, Field Lane, Gaywood, King’s Lynn, PE304AY, England.

South end -on-sea Congregation Recognized as New Parish

ENGLAND: The Diocesan Metropolitan Dr. Mathews Mar Thimotheos of UK, Europe and Africa declared the Orthodox congregation at South end – on –sea, England as a new parish of his diocese on 25th July 2009. The new a parish is named after St. Gregorios of Parumala. Fr. Mathew Abraham is appointed as the vicar of the new parish.

On his visit, the Metropolitan was given fabulous reception at All Saints Church by the overwhelming children of the new parish. Metropolitan Mar Thimotheos was the chief celebrant for the Holy Qurbana and assisted by Fr. George Joy, the Diocesan secretary and vicar Fr. Mathew Abraham.

An ecumenical meeting was arranged after the Holy Qurbana. In his address to the parish, the Metropolitan affirmed the joy of experiencing the spirit and goodwill of the community in organizing the parish in a wonderful manner. Rev. Neil Paxton, Vicar, All Saints Church, Rev. Stephan Burdett, Rector, Church of England, South end on sea, Fr. George Joy, P.O Joseph, Shibu Thomas and George Mathew spoke on the occasion.

The managing committee of the parish expressed their utmost gratitude to the Metropolitan for granting their wish in declaring the congregation as a new parish. In the meantime they remarkably honored the contribution of Rev. Abraham Thomas , former vicar, Indian Orthodox Church, London for creating the background to bring the community together and forming the congregation in shape.

Large number of faithful from different parts of UK and several different Kerala Christian denominations took part in the event.

Dr. Mathews Mar Timotheos Elected as Chairman

LONDON: Dr.Mathews Mar Timotheos, Diocesan Bishop of UK, Europe and Africa has been elected as the chairman of the Council of Oriental Orthodox Churches in the UK. on June 2.2009. The tenure of the office would be for three years.

The members and the office bearers of the council greeted and received the Metropolitan with great enthusiasm.

Fr. Abraham Thomas, Vicar of St.Gregorios Indian Orthodox Church,London was working as the Secretary of the Council for past three years.  In the council meeting the President and the members gratefully appreciated the effort and contribution extended by outgoing secretary Fr.Abraham Thomas, during his tenure. The council offered their best wishes and prayers to him for fulfilling his future assignments.
