Dr Mar Yulios sketched by young artist Tomin George

MUSCAT: Youngster Tomin George had done members of the Muscat Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka proud with his budding skills as an artist.

During his recent holidays, he has pencil sketched Ahmedabad Diocese Metropolitan Pulikkottil HG Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios. The Metropolitan has expressed his ‘joy’ and ‘best wishes’ for Tomin George on his artistic ability. This is for the first time that Tomin has sketched Dr Mar Yulios, both in colour and grey.

Tomin, a Standard X student of Indian School Muscat (ISM), drew an oil painting of Jesus Christ on canvas and offered it as a first fruit offering at the ‘fete and sale’ of the Maha Edavaka recently. An altar boy at the Muscat Maha Edavaka, he is the son of George P Thomas (Church ID # G-122) and Suja George. He also has a younger brother in Jobin George. Tomin who has sketched paintings on sceneries and portraits, looks set to scale greater heights in the coming years.

Muscat Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka comes under Ahmedabad Diocese with HG Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios as the Metropolitan.

St George Church, Nashik conducted Kidney Disease Detection Camp

NASHIK: St George Orthodox Church, Nashik had conducted a Kidney Disease Detection Camp, on Sunday, January 13, 2013 after the Holy Qurbana.

The medical camp was led by Dr. Urmila Anandh, a well-known Nephrologist of Asia, from Kolila Ben Hospital, Mumbai.

Dr. Urmila Anandh, the chief medical officer at the camp told that almost 250 thousand people die of kidney failure in India every year and is the third largest killer after malignancy and heart disease. Millions suffer from, some form of kidney disease and many of them, particularly in India, cannot afford the cost of treatment or care. A person suffering from kidney failure can survive only when he or she undergoes dialysis or kidney transplantation.

“The Holy Episcopal Synod of the Indian (Malankara) Orthodox Church had decided to start a Kidney Foundation to serve the Indian Orthodox Community with awareness and prevention program for kidney and related ailments. The Diocesan Metropolitan of Bombay, Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, urged the Diocesan vicars and church committees to take the issue seriously and to conduct awareness and prevention programs at the parish level. Mar Gregorios Church , NOIDA consecrates its new shrine

NOIDA: On December 15, 2012 Holy shrine on the premises of Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church , NOIDA was consecrated by Dr Youhanon Mar Demetrios, Metropolitan, Delhi Diocese and assisted byDr Abraham Seraphim, Metropolitan, Banglore Diocese.

The Shrine was designed keeping the rich Orthodox Church traditions. The exteriors have three levels whereas the interior has only one level.

At the first level has the icon of Mother Mary and baby Jesus. Col. Joseph Arulraj who is resident of the same sector where the Church is locatedisthe artist of this ICON. On the second level there are portraits of Ascension of our savior Jesus Christ, St George and St Gregorios (Parumala Thirumeni).

Dimapur Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church celebrated Patron’s day

DIMAPUR: Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church celebrated Patron’s day on 10 to 11, November 2012.

On 10th Evening prayer conducted followed by devotional address and procession from Church to Cross Tower (Midland). .Fr.Yaunan Mulamootil was the speaker at the convention.

On 11 morning Holy Tri Mass conducted by Rev.Fr.Yaunan Mulamootil(Mumbai), Fr.P.S.Varghes and Fr.Varghese P.Joshua. After the special intercessory prayer to the saint Gregorios of Parumala, procession started from MGO Church to MGM Higher Secondary School and Cross tower.

Special Prayer was conducted at the Cross Tower for the Peace and Harmony of the land .

Spiritual Organizations annual meet was also conducted. More than 250 Malayalees participated in all programs.

Fr.Varghese P.Joshua welcomed the gathering, Vicar, Fr.P.S.Varghese proposed vote of thanks.

Dr. Mar Dionysius Re-dedicates the Renovated Church in Ranchi

Ranchi : The renovated St. Stephen’s Orthodox Church, Ranchi was re-dedicated by the Diocesan Metropolitan Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius on October 1, 2012.

On 2nd October Holy Mooninmel Qurbana was celebrated with His Grace being the Chief Celebrant and Rev. Fr. Aju K. Varghese (Vicar, St.Mary’s Orthodox Church, Bhandara) and Rev. Fr. Abraham P.J. (Vicar, Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church, Jamshedpur) as co-celebrants.

Metropolitan praised the efforts of Vicar Fr. Mathew Thomas and the parishioners for renovating and beautifying the church.

Fr. Mathew Thomas acknowledged the valuable contributuions of Kuwait-St.Gregorios Maha Edavaka, Ahmadi-St.Thomas Orthodox Church, Bhandara-St.Mary’s Orthodox Church, towards the renovation of the Church.

Thereafter the Metropolitan planted a sapling in the Church premises in commemoration of the Church Renovation and inauguration of the Eco-Club.

During the Parish Day Celebrations, Rev. Dr. Joseph Ayrookuzhy Ranchi Marthoma Church Vicar honored Mar Dionysius by presenting a Shawl & boque. During the function, the senior members who had completed 60 years of age were honored.

Church civil work contractor, Omanakuttan was specially felicitated on the occasion. Declaration of the institution of a Memorial Award named after Late M P Mathew, a pioneer member of the parish was done by Mar Dionysius.

Sunday school students and Martha Mariam Samajam members presented songs, dance and skit.

Muscat Food festival in aid of Ahmedabad Diocese Development Fund

MUSCAT : In aid of the Ahmedabad Diocese Development Fund, Muscat Muscat Mar Gregorios Maha Edavaka successfully hosted its second food festival and family meet on October 12, Friday evening.

The largely attended family gathering had live variety entertainment and special games and events for children.

For the gastronomics, it was a sheer delight. There were 12 food stalls which served anything from chicken biriyani, kappa biriyani, Chinese threaded chicken, kappa and fish curry, Thattukada (5 star!), barbecue and fresh juices.

Earlier, the festival began with lighting of the traditional lamp by Fr Joji George Koickalethu, President/Vicar, Fr Binu John Thomas, Associate Vicar, Fr Varghese George and members of the executive committee — E I Rajan (Trustee), Dr Prakash Ninan (Co-Trustee) and John Thomas (Santhosh), Secretary.

Stalls were maintained by various spiritual organisations like OC Youth Movement, Martha Mariya Sangham and others. The OCYM orchestra also entertained the crowd.

Babu Varghese, General Convenor, has in a note thanked all for the support and hard work towards the successful conduct of the carnival and appreciated the cooperation of all. Other members of the festival committee included Anu Varghese, Babu Thundathil and Biju Varghese.

Bahrain St Mary’s Cathedral felicitates Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios

MANAMA : Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios, Metropolitan of Ahmedabad Diocese, was felicitated and presented with memento by the Bahrain St Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral on October 5 after his arrival in Bahrain.

Dr Mar Yulios was at St Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral for its annual convention and Feast of Dedication from October 5-10, 2012 as its chief speaker and chief celebrant. The Metropolitan also released a CD on the occasion of the Catholicate Centenary inauguration.

On October 5, Friday, Dr Mar Yulios led the Holy Eucharist and was felicitated by the church managing committee. His Grace also hoisted the flag or the Perunnal Kodiyettu.

On October 9, conducted evening prayer, festival procession and benediction. On October 10, Dr Mar Yulios was the chief celebrant for the Holy Eucharist. There was also be ponnada and presenting awards, kodiyirakkam and perunal nercha.

Bahrain Mar Thoma Parish Choir also organised an award ceremony and musical feast in honour of Dr Mar Yulios. Rev Renji Varghese,Vicar, and Rev Reji Dan K Philipose, Asst Vicar the Mar Thoma Parish, Bahrain and Fr Jacob Koshy participated.

Earlier upon arrival at the Bahrain International Airport, Dr Mar Yulios was received by Fr Jacob Koshy, Vicar of St Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral, and members of the managing committee.

Catholicate Centenary Celebrations: St.Thomas Church, Ghaziabad

NEW DELHI: The Catholicate Centenary Celebrations in Ghaziabd St.Thomas Orthodox Church will be held on Sunday,16 September 2012 after the Holy Qurbana.

A public meeting will also be held under the leadership of the Vicar, Rev.Fr.Saji Yohannan. Publication of Special Catholicate Centenary Church Bulletin, Centenary Procession by Sunday School Students, Catholicate Awareness Message, Video Presentation, Special Prayers, Catholicate Pledge, sweets Distribution, Food packet distribution to Rickshaw Pullers and laborers etc. will be the highlights of the day.

To commemorate the Centenary year, the OCYM Ghaziabad Church unit has initiated a ‘Give Sight Project’ which facilitates 100 eye operations free of cost to the cataract affected poor people.

The Church General body has approved the proposal of constructing houses for 5 homeless orthodox Christians and releasing Marriage assistance fund for 3 poor orthodox girls; as part of the Catholicate centenary celebrations.

Sohar St George Orthodox Church, launched the charity logo

SOHAR, Sultanate of Oman –- Ahmedabad Diocese Metropolitan Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios has installed St George Orthodox Church in Sohar on the World Wide Web and also launched the logo for the charity organization called Kanivu (meaning compassion in action).

Dr Mar Yulios launched the logo on September 7, 2012 after the 8-day Lent.

Also launched was a charity organization called Kanivu which plans to help the poor.

The Parish website was designed by Jubin Simon which has a number of links to Malankara Orthodox Church, church calendar, Diocese, news and events and other information like jobs bank, prayer requests, parish directory and devotional files.

Betzy Mathew (spouse of Fr C S Mathew, Vicar Sohar Orthodox Church), had created the logo for the charity organization called Kanivu.

The logo shows two extended palms reaching out to each other showing compassion for each other which will primarily tackle home for homeless, educational fund for poor children, healthcare for the poor and marriage aid fund for the poor

Eappen Varghese, a member, donated the maiden charity cash to Kanivu in the presence of Dr Mar Yulios and Fr C S Mathews.

Feast of the Dormition of St. Mary was celebrated in Sydney

SYDNEY: The first Parish Perunal of the St. Mary’s Indian Orthodox Church, North and North-West Sydney was celebrated on Sunday 19 August.

Morning prayers started at 8am followed by Holy Qurbana, Intercessary Prayer to St. Mary and Procession (Rasa). In his message the Vicar Fr. Ferdinand Pathrose reminded all about the love that Jesus has for His mother and encouraged everyone to be more earnest in their intercessory prayers to St. Mary.

The service was followed by a program of songs and a dance-skit with Sunday School children taking centre stage. The perunal concluded with a love feast. Almost two hundred faithful participated in the celebration of the Feast of the Dormition of St. Mary.
