Anniversary celeberations of St. Gregorios congregation- Riyadh

RIYADH: Anniversary celebrations of st. Gregorios Sunday school & congregation, Riyadh was conducted on 8 February 2013 Friday.

After the service, the program commenced with the prayer song by Sunday school students.

Various programs by the children and congregation members were staged on the occasion. Single song, group song, single dance, group dance, action song, Margam kali, Sangeetha shilpam, Katha prasangam, instrumental music, bible reading and skits based on, bible stories and social and moral values, were the highlights of the program.

The prizes were given away by Saji Varghese, Laji Joseph, Sabu Skaria, Rosy Jacob and Swapna Rijan. Reji Thomas, Saji Varghese, Sabu Yohannan and Sonia Stephen delivered felicitation speeches.

Saji Zacharia welcomed the gathering and Saji Thankachen proposed vote of thanks.

Benny Paul, Vinod Koshy, Joby Mathew, Jiju P Stephen, Sanju P, Sony Sam, Sunny Ninan, Sony George, Beena Vinod and Annamma Roshan gave leadership for the program.

Jeena Jessy Kunjumon secures 3rd rank in SSFC-OKR exams

MUSCAT: Jeena Jessy Kunjumon from Muscat Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka, by securing the third rank in the SSFC examination (2012-2013) from OSSAE – Outside Kerala Region. Jeena however emerged as the top rank holder from Ahmedabad Diocese and among churches in the Gulf region.

Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios, Ahmedabad Diocese Metropolitan, has expressed his happiness over Jeena Jessy obtaining the third rank and wished her all success.

Maha Edavaka Vicar Fr Joji George Koickalethu and Associate Vicar Fr Binu John Thomas, have also congratulated Jeena on her achievement and wished her all success for the future.

Apart from academics, Jeena has also excelled in singing, quiz and essay writing.

Jeena is the daughter of George Kunjumon from Al Taie Legal Consultants, and Jessy Kunjumon. Her elder brother Jacob George Kunjumon is presently pursuing his fourth year Computer Science from Waljat College of Applied Sciences, Muscat. Jeena’s parents hail from ‘Makkattu’, Perinad in Kollam district of Kerala with St Thomas Orthodox Syrian Church in Perinad as their home parish.

Pilgrimage to St. Dionysius Church, Al Ain by OCYM UAE Zone

AL AIN: UAE Zonal committee of OCYM is organizing pilgrimage to St. Dionysius Orthodox church in Al Ain, on Friday, March 1, 2013 to attend the 79th memorial feast of Vattasseril Thirumeni.

The pilgrimage groups from all the parishes will be received Dr. Mathews Mar Thimothios, Metropolitan of UK, Europe and Africa Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Church at St. Dionysius church at 3:30 p.m. for the memorial Holy Qurbana

This is the first parish in Malankara Orthodox Church, established in the name of St. Dionysius, popularly known as “Vattasseril Thirumeni”,

Mar Yulios visits Yemen; chief celebrant at Parish Day celebrations

SANA’A, Republic of Yemen: Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios, Metropolitan of Ahmedabad Diocese, has began his maiden Episcopal visit to Republic of Yemen. The visit is scheduled from February 5 to February 9, 2013.

Dr Mar Yulios will be hosted at the St Mary’s Orthodox Church of Sana’a in Yemen which is included as one of the church in the Diocese of Ahmedabad as per Kalpana of His Holiness the Catholiocs (HES/HH/09/2012) dated March 19, 2012.

During the visit, the Metropolitan will be the chief celebrant at the Parish Day celebrations of St Mary’s Orthodox Church on February 7, Thursday, before which the Metropolitan will deliver the message.

The Metropolitan arrives from Kochi by a Qatar Airways flight with a two-hour transit at Doha International Airport. His Grace is expected to land at Sana’a International Airport around 3.30 pm on February 5.

The programme schedule is:
February 5: Arrival at Sana’a International Airport at 3.30 pm
6 pm: Evening Prayers
Feb 6: 6 pm Evening Prayers & Intercession prayer to St Mary
Feb 7: 5 pm Evening Prayers, Message by Dr Mar Yulios, followed by Parish Day celebrations
Feb 8: 4.30 pm, Evening Prayers. Chief celebrant at Holy Eucharist
Feb 9: Departure from Yemen for Kerala

Fr Mathews Mathews is the present Vicar of the Church which was earlier under UK-Africa Diocese.

Dr Mar Yulios had complimented Fr Mathews on crossing 70 years and also completing Silver Jubilee in His ministry as a priest of the Church in July 2012.

The parish presents a cosmopolitan outlook with members from other groups like Catholics and other factions. There are only around 20 families and nurses of general categories number around 30.
