Mar Yulios begins Episcopal visit to Oman; chief speaker at Sohar convention


SOHAR, Sultanate of Oman: Ahmedabad Diocese Metropolitan Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios has begun a near-month-long Episcopal visit to the Sultanate of Oman from September 3-29.

The visit will see the Metropolitan undertaking visits to three Orthodox parishes namely the Sohar St George Orthodox Church, Muscat Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edvaka, the St Stephen’s Orthodox Church in Salalah and seven congregations spread all over the Sultanate.

Upon arrival at the Muscat International Airport on September 3 morning, Dr Mar Yulios was received by Fr Joji George Koickalethu, Vicar, Muscat Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edvaka, Fr Binu John Thomas, Assistant Vicar and Fr C S Mathews, Vicar, Sohar St George Orthodox Church. Also present were John Thomas (Santhosh), Secretary, Mammen George, members of the managing committee, parishioners and others.

At the Sohar Church, Dr Mar Yulios will be the main speaker and chief celebrant at the 8-days Lent and Bible convention. Plans are also to launch the website of Sohar St Gregorios Church and launch of Kanivu, a charitable project titled compassion in action.

From Sohar, the Metropolitan will visit the St Stephen’s Church in Salalah for a week and return to Muscat Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka.

Dr Mar Yulios will also prepare the ground for the 2-day visit of HH Moran Mor Baselius Mar Thoma Paulose-II, Malankara Metropolitan and Catholicos of the East to Muscat on September 27, 28 for the 40th anniversary celebrations of Muscat Maha Edavaka and centenary celebrations of the Holy Catholicate.

Catholicate Centenary celebrated in South Africa

St.John’s Orthodox of Delaware Valley moves to a new building


DELAWARE VALLY: St.John’s Indian Orthodox of Delaware Valley, Drexel Hill, PA has finally a church building of its own and added one more own facility to Northeast American diocese. The settlement of the new facility was completed on Tuesday, August 21, 2012.

St. John’s Orthodox Church was established November 2006 by the former Diocesan Metropolitan, the Valiya Thirumeni Mathews Barnabas and present diocesan metropolitan Zachariah Mar Nicholovos. Since then the congregation was worshipping in a chapel connected to the main Sanctuary of the Drexel Hill Baptist Church.

The newly bought property has. 1.25 acres of land and 22,400 Sq.ft of building, consist of main Sanctuary which could accommodate about 500 people, a Chapel which could accommodate about 100 people, a basement hall which could accommodate about 200 people and 10 large 8 small size class rooms in two levels, with enough car parking spaces.

The new church is easy accessible from NY, NJ, DE, MD and nearby cities. And located at – 4400 State Rd, Drexel Hill, PA-19026
