Malankara Association Elected Paulose Mar Militheos As Catholicos-Designate

PARUMALA: A meeting of the Malankara Syrian Christian Association , 4,051-member parliament of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, held at the St Gregorios Nagar (Parumala seminary premises) on the banks of the Pampa at Parumala near Thiruvalla at 1 p.m. on Today is over by electing Metropolitan Paulos Mar Militheos as Catholicos-designate.

His Holiness The Malankara Metropolitan and Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Didymus 1 thereafter declared elected Mar Militheos as Catholicos-designate who would be the successor to the throne of St. Thomas as Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan. The Catholicos and Metropolitans of the Church were received to the meeting venue in a ceremonial procession from Parumala church at 1 p.m. The Malankara Metropolitan, who is also the president of the Malankara Syrian Christian Association, presided over the meeting. Church secretary Alexander Karackal welcomed the gathering.

The Catholicos-elect sought the blessings of the Catholicos soon after his elections. H.B.Mar Militheos was felicitated at a public meeting held on the Parumala seminary premises later. The Mar Thoma Metropolitan Philipose Mar Chrysostum inaugurated the meeting. The Catholicos presided. Nair Service Society general secretary P.K. Narayana Panicker; Archbishop of Changanassery (Syro-Malabar Church) Mar Joseph Powathil; Pro Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University K.P. Younuskutty; Geevarghese Mar Osthathios, senior metropolitan of the Church; Dr. Alexander Karackal; Fr. O. Thomas, clergy trustee of the Church; P.C. Abraham Padinjarekkara, lay trustee; addressed the meeting.

The Association resolved to increase the strength of the managing committee of the Church in view of the creation of new dioceses.

Annual Conference – Martha Mariam Vanitha Samajam 2006

NEW YORK: The Annual Conference of the Marth Mariam Vanitha Samajam of the American Diocese was held at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Sayville on Oct 21st Saturday from 9.00 am to 4.00pm.

The conference was inaugurated by the Asst. Metropolitan Zachariah Mar Nicholovos.

The theme of the conference was “The challenges to Christian faith today”. Fr. Bijesh Philip, professor of Nagpur theological seminary was the keynote speaker. In his speech, he went over the various elements which stand against to our faith and the ways to overcome them. His speech was very enthusiastic to the audience. In his presidential address, Mathews Mar Barnabas, the metropolitan of the American Diocese, put emphasis on showing Christ’s love in our practical life.

The Bible quiz competition was conducted in the afternoon session. Fr. M. K. Kuriakose (St. Thomas Indian Orthodox Church Philadelphia) was the Quiz-Master. Almost 26 churches were participated in the quiz competition. The St. Thomas Yonkers and St. Stephens Bergenfield shared the 1st and 2nd prizes respectively.

The Raffle drawing was also conducted and the winners were from St. Thomas Yonkers(1st &3rd) and St. Mary’s Montclair(2nd). The top two raffle sellers were St. Thomas Yonkers (1st) and St. Thomas Detroit and St. Baselios Brooklyn (2nd).

The Business meeting session in the afternoon was under the leadership of Chor-episcopos Paulose Adai. Saroja Varghese was elected as the new Treasurer and Saramma George as the Jt. Treasurer. The melodies songs by the church choir, Group song by St. George Orthodox Church, Staten Island, Devotional songs by Elizabeth Tharaken and Sangeetha Mani gave a spiritual uplift to the conference.

Chor-episcopos Paulose Adai welcomed the gathering and general secretary Shiny Raju delivered the vote of thanks. Including Priests and Deacons, about 300 members were attended the conference.

Shiny Raju, Mary Ennacheril, Thankamma Korah, Thresiamma Vettichira and Elcy Yohannan Shankarathil gave their leadership to the conference.

The conference for the year 2007 was sponsored by St. Mary’s Church, Jackson Heights, New York .

Paulose Mar Militheos To Be Elected Catholicos-Designate

PARUMALA: A meeting of the Malankara Syrian Christian Association , 4,051-member parliament of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, will be held at the St Gregorios Nagar (Parumala seminary premises) on the banks of the Pampa at Parumala near Thiruvalla at 1 p.m. on Today.

Addressing a press conference at the Bethany Bishop’s House in Thiruvalla on Tuesday, Church secretary Dr. Alexander Karackal and organising committee conveners Christophorus Ramban, Biju Oommen Muringasseril and Jacob Thomas Arikupuram said that Thursday’s meeting would be an extension of the meeting held on September 21. Dr. Karackal said that the Holy Episcopal Synod and the managing committee had recommended the candidature of Paulose Mar Militheos, Metropolitan of the Kunnamkulam diocese, for the election to the post of Catholicos-designate to be held on Thursday.

The association meeting on Thursday would formally elect Mar Militheos as Catholicos-designate who would be the successor to Baselius Mar Thoma Didymos I as Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan. Dr. Karackal said the Malankara Syrian Christian Association would take up the proposal to enhance the strength of the managing committees.

The Malankara Metropolitan, who is also the Malankara Syrian Christian Association president, will preside over the meeting. Thereafter a public meeting to felicitate the newly elected Catholicos-designate would be held at the Parumala seminary premises at 3 p.m.

Mar Thoma Metropolitan Philipose Mar Chrysostum would inaugurate the public meeting. Malankara Metropolitan would preside over the meet. General secretary of the Nair Service Society P.K. Narayana Panicker, Archbishop of Changanassery Mar Joseph Powathil, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Mahatma Gandhi University K.P. Younuskunjuwould be among those who address the meeting.
