Parumala Pilgrimage From Wednesday

PARUMALA: The annual Pilgrimage to Parumala church will be conducted from October 26 to November 2 and the 103th commemoration perunnal of saint Parumala Thirumeni will be celebrated on November 1 and 2. Informing this at a news conference here Friday, Parumala Seminary Manager Dr Christophorus Ramban and Sabha Secretary Dr Alexander Karakkal said elaborate arrangements had been made for the pilgrimage.

As part of the Saint’s commemoration celebrations, Holy Qurbana will be conducted at 7 AM on October 26. The Kodiyettu (Flag hoisting) , marking the beginning of the annual Parumala pilgrimage, will be held at 2 PM on October 26. After the Holy Qurbana at 7 AM on October 27, Geevarghese Mar Osthathios will inaugurate the pilgrimage.

The free medical camp will be inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi University Vice- Chancellor Jancy James at 9 AM on October 29. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the cultural meet to be held at 10.30 AM on October 30. Special Holy Qurbana will be held at 7 AM on November 1. The pilgrimage sangamam will be held at 2 PM.

Vice-Chancellor of Kalady Sree Sankara Sanskrit University K S Radhakrishnan will deliver the key note address at the pilgrims meet at 4 PM on November 1. Thousands of pilgrims from different parts of the country and abroad would visit the tomb of the Saint at Parumala church during the famed Parumala pilgrimage week, they added.

Prof. E. J. John Appointed Coordinator Of Minority Education Panel

KOTTAYAM: Prof. E J John, former principal of Baselios College, Kottayam and Dy. Secretary of Malankara Orthodox Church , has been appointed as the state honorary coordinator of the newly-formed National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions. John also served as the P.R.O. of the of Malankara Orthodox Church for more than a decade.

His appointment is in recognition of his work and writings for the protection of education rights of the minority.

Justice M.S.A. Siddique is the chairman of the commission. B.S. Ramuwalia and Rev. Dr. Valsan Thampu are members and R. Ranganath is the secretary of the commission.

Prof.John hails from an aristrocratic family of central Travancore, Elanjikkal at Niranam.

Kerala High Court Orders Election At Kaniattunirappu Church

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court today ordered convening of the general body of the Kaniattunirappu St John Jacobite Syrian Church for conducting election to its managing committee in accordance with the 1934 constitution of the Malankara Church.

Justice V Ramkumar directed the Ernakulam first Additional District Court to appoint an Advocate Commissioner to convene the general body.The court made it clear that parishioners who swear allegiance to the 1934 Constitution of the Malankara Church alone shall be entitled to participate in the election.

The order was issued on a writ petition filed by Church Trustee M V George and 23 parishioners.The church remained closed since September 03, 2003, following factional dispute between the Orthodox and Jacobite groups.

It rejected the contempt of court case against Vicar Fr John of the Moolamattom Church and Puthencruz Sub Inspector of Police T V. Jacob, finding that the petition was an abuse of the process of court.
